Phil has been sailing since the age of 11 and has worked in and around the marine industry since the age of 15. He studied Marine Engineering at Newcastle University obtaining a Higher Educational Diploma in Marine Technology. After University he worked for a local marine company where he used the knowledge gained while at University to approach more practical aspects of the marine industry including rigging, repairs, fit out and maintenance on everything from dinghies to yachts.
Phil has been running Gingerboats since late 2011 - initially concentrating on the building of wooden GP14s. During this time he has also worked for Ovington boats in every aspect of the buisness from composite construction, repairs, fit out and custom works. He was heavily involved in the build of 4 new all carbon International 14's and several other projects. He has a wealth of experience when it comes to construction or repairs in wood, FRP, epoxy foam sandwich and carbon.
Our passion for wooden boats, attention to detail and love of sailing mean we are fully dedicated to every aspect of our work. Gingerboats started out by offering setup knowledge, repair and replacement services for local sailors. We completed our first GP14 in early 2012 and since then have slowly expanded to offer a range of services. Although the GP14 is where it all started we are now working with other classes. As well as repairs and supply of spares we are now able to build a selection of custom built wooden boats.
